What does the Gold Star mean on peoples front door?
I was driving around a nearby town today looking for yard sales and noticed in one particular neighborhood that several homes had a gold 5-point star displayed on their front door. Does anyone know what this symbolizes? It was really strange to me. It was at least 12 homes in this one neighborhood. (and it wasnt the star of David).
As a military spouse a military mom I know that a blue star means that you are the mother of someone in the arm forces that is at war. A gold star means that your child died in combat. I believe this was a tradition started in WWI or WWII to display the star in your front window or on your door. I don't display one but my mother-in-law always does.
